You’ve heard it before: consistency is king.
Every productivity guru, every success coach, and yes, even me at one point, has preached the gospel of consistency. Show up. Do the work. Rinse and repeat.
And while there’s truth in that, here’s what I’ve learned after coaching hundreds of realtors over the past six years:
We need to stop obsessing over consistency and start focusing on mastery.
Why? Because consistency without competence leads to resistance.
Let me explain.
So many realtors avoid lead generation – not because they’re lazy or undisciplined but because they haven’t developed skill. They don’t feel confident in their ability to initiate value-based conversations or move prospects toward a decision without feeling salesy or awkward.
So they avoid it. They procrastinate. They distract themselves with branding or busywork or endless planning.
And then they beat themselves up for not being more “consistent.”
Here’s the shift: What if it’s not a consistency problem… but a mastery problem?
When you’re not good at something, repeating it just feels painful.
But when you get good at something – when you start to feel confident and capable – it’s no longer a grind. You stop resisting. You start showing up naturally. Consistency becomes effortless because it’s backed by competence.
Let me give you a real-world example.
Just last week, my client Lori had a breakthrough moment. In a listing presentation, the seller brought up the idea of reducing her commission. In the past, that might’ve flustered her or triggered self-doubt. But this time, Lori stood confidently in her leadership. She stayed calm, grounded, and without getting defensive, responded with a simple, powerful phrase that clearly communicated her value.
She didn’t argue. She didn’t justify. She led.
And the result? The sellers happily agreed to pay her full fee.
Why? Because Lori was able to shift the seller’s view of her commission from something they had to pay – a kind of tax on selling their home, if you will – into something she would earn by providing a valuable service and her professional expertise.
That’s what sales mastery looks like.
Not scripts. Not manipulation. Just skill, confidence, and presence.
Most realtors think they need more consistency in their lead gen. And yes, eventually they do. But what they actually need first is to fall in love with sales and that starts by learning the language of sales leadership.
When you’re fluent in this language, when you know how to lead a conversation instead of just survive it, you stop dreading outreach. You stop second-guessing your value. You stop sounding like a script and start sounding like a pro.
You stop being “salesy” because you’re actually leading. And leadership, not manipulation, is what creates trust and connection.
Here’s the truth most coaches won’t tell you:
Mastery is the gateway to consistency. And consistency is what leads to results.
But we don’t get there by white-knuckling our way through something we hate. We get there by committing to excellence. By deciding to become the kind of business owner who is confident in her craft.
Is it sexy? Not always.
Is it easy? Nope.
Is it worth it? 100%.
And here’s the good news: you don’t have to do it alone.
You’re not meant to. Mastery requires mentorship. Support. Repetition. Feedback. Courage. And yes, eventually, consistency.
But the first commitment is this: decide to get good.
Because when you do, you’ll not only break free from the feast-or-famine cycle in your business—you’ll build a sustainable, soul-aligned, prosperous practice that supports the life you actually want.
And that, my friend, is what we’re here for.
