Four years ago, I was visiting a Vancouver real estate brokerage, and I ran into a woman who I had done deals with in the field. At that time she was a 15 year veteran realtor. I had always respected her professionalism, her heart and her sense of style.
After my meeting at the brokerage, I was chatting with this agent and she almost bashfully asked me a question I’ll never forget:
“Do you think I’m coachable?”
What she really meant was:
- Am I doing this right?
- Can I change?
- Is it too late?
Fast forward to today. Diane and I just completed our coaching agreement and I can tell you the answer to her question is a resounding YES!

After working together for 3 of the past 4 years, Diane now takes two full months off every year by choice, while maintaining a profitable, well-run business.
Not because she’s perfect.
Not because she never struggles.
But because she stayed open.
Coachability isn’t about having a coach, (though that helps), it’s about having a posture of learning.
Being willing to:
- Receive feedback
- Try something new
- Question old habits
- Stay curious instead of defensive.
The most successful people I know, and my clients who get the kind of results Diane gets, all share this trait: they’re lifelong learners.
During our completion session recently, I asked Diane what the biggest difference is for her after our time coaching together. Here is what she said:
“I am more confident and more relaxed about my business, I work less and my revenue continues to increase”.
I also asked her what her husband would say is the biggest change in her since we started coaching together. Here is what he said to her:
“You are way more confident as a professional Realtor, you have fine-tuned your systems and you don’t second guess yourself anymore”.
