You may have heard it said that comparison is the thief of joy. It’s also the thief of results.

No matter where you’re at in your business, there will be somebody who is further along. And it can be tempting to look at them and fall into comparison and judgment. Sometimes it’s judgement of them:

“How can they be so successful? I am better than they are at X!”

and sometimes the judgement is really about ourselves:

Why does everything always work out for other people? I’m must not be good enough at X.”

Either way, the comparison and judgement is a waste of time and energy.

In The Infinite Game, Simon Sinek talks about worthy rivals. Worthy rivals are those people who are doing what you are doing and doing it well. You have the choice to be jealous of them, or to count them as a worthy rival and be inspired by them to be better at what you are doing.

The essence of the idea of worth rivals is this: Don’t look at what anybody else is doing unless it is for inspiration. Keep your blinders on. Stay in your own lane. This is how you create YOUR version of an aligned and prosperous business that supports a life you love.

There is enough abundance for everyone, INCLUDING YOU.

The only difference between you and those other people you are comparing yourself with is they are staying in their own lane. They are focused on developing skills, strategies and systems that lead to success.

It’s entirely possible that some of the people you are comparing yourself with are my clients, or at least people like them, who are willing to invest in themselves and the future they want to create.

It’s up to you whether you want to compare yourself with them or be inspired by them.

So, how about it? Are you willing to be inspired by others who have what you want? After all, they are proof that what you want is possible.
